At STEAM in Motion, we help fulfill unmet needs and make learning fun. Our mission is to inspire elementary school girls to claim their space in STEAM fields by connecting academic concepts to the sports they love. Through motion-based learning, we build the confidence, curiosity, and critical thinking skills necessary for the next generation of innovators.

About Our Inspiring Co-Founders:

Sofia Melani - A High School Junior, Visionary Athlete-Scientist & STEM Mentor

Sofia believes that the ice is the ultimate laboratory. As a decorated competitive figure skater, she has spent years mastering the intersection of physics, poise, and mental resilience. Now a junior in high school with her sights set on a career in STEM, she is dedicated to ensuring that financial barriers don’t keep the next generation of innovators off the rink. By blending her athletic expertise with her love for science, she helps design curriculum that teaches underserved youth the "how" and "why" behind every movement. For Sofia, this foundation isn’t just about providing equipment and transport; it’s about proving to 4th-grade girls that whether they are on the ice or in a lab, they have the mental and physical strength to excel.

Lucia Cicconi - A 6th Grade Student  & Advocate for Early Empowerment

Lucia isn’t waiting for the future to make a difference – she’s already leading the conversation. As a 6th-grade powerhouse, Lucia has already taken the stage at the state level to advocate for girls in STEAM at various conferences, highlighting a critical truth: We must engage female students early before they lose their "identity" in science and math. Through this foundation, she turns research into action. She aims to help bridge the gap for elementary students by providing authentic, hands-on STEAM experiences hidden within the sports they love, such as pilates and skating. Her mission is to build a world where every single 4th grader feels like they belong in the world of science and athletics alike.
